How to add a link to your Instagram bio (and make it clickable)

October 4, 2026 · 5 min read

Instagram doesn't make links in your post captions clickable, so your profile is the one place where a link actually works. If you want people to visit your shop, portfolio, video or newsletter, the link in your bio is where that happens.

Add a link to your Instagram bio in 6 steps

  1. Open Instagram and tap your profile picture in the bottom right.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Tap Links, then Add external link.
  4. Paste your full URL, starting with https://.
  5. Optionally add a title so people know what the link is.
  6. Tap Done, then check your profile to confirm the link shows and opens the right page.

The exact menu names change from time to time, but the path is always the same: profile, edit profile, links.

Why your link might not look clickable

What if you have more than one thing to share?

Instagram lets you add several links directly, but visitors still see a small list with little control over order, design or what each link says. Most creators and small businesses end up with more than they can fit: a shop, a booking page, a newsletter, a latest video, a podcast.

That is what a link-in-bio page is for. You put one short URL in your profile, and that URL opens a clean page with all your links on it, in the order you choose. You can change the page whenever you like without touching Instagram again.
